Co-Founder of Moving in the Spirit on her 38 year history with Atlanta Youth Dance Company – WABE

In an upcoming landmark performance by Moving in the Spirit, Atlanta’s youth dance organization, dancers will become “a bold tempera, choreographed with brushes of powerful history to create a stunning human canvas,” according to the site Internet of the event.

Poetry and dance will join forces to tell the inspiring story of Harlem Renaissance painter Jacob Lawrence in the final presentation by Dana Lupton, co-founder and artistic director of Moving in the Spirit, who co-created this performance of farewell with the poet Alice Lovelace. “Journey on the A-Train: A Jacob Lawrence Story” will be on stage at the Rialto Center for the Arts on May 8.

Lupton and Lovelace joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to discuss the upcoming show.

“We are excited and proud of this next generation of leaders who will carry on the legacy for another 38 years and beyond,” Lupton said. She continued: “We just want people to walk away championing their children’s creativity when they see them on stage.”
