Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officer injured in accidental shooting

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Florida – First responders rushed to the scene after one of them accidentally shot himself on Friday.

According to police, officers responded to the 15200 block of Southwest 167th Street shortly before 4 p.m. after being alerted to someone who had been shot.

Upon arrival, officers said they learned the victim was a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officer who accidentally discharged his weapon.

Firefighters responded and took the man to the trauma center at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in “good, stable condition,” police said.

The identity of the Miami-Dade Fire officer has not been released.

Additionally, officials have not yet released information about the circumstances leading up to the accidental shooting or say whether the officer was on or off duty at the time of the shooting.
