Nishioka wins Atlanta Open against Thompson

Japanese star Yoshihito Nishioka won his third career title on Sunday in Atlanta, Georgia, beating No. 4 seed Jordan Thompson 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-2.

Using his sense of play and movement brilliantly, the 28-year-old hit 26 winners, broke his serve twice and won 73% of his first serve points.

Known as one of the most consistent players on the circuit, Nishioka will climb to world No. 50 on Monday.

Thompson, who is having his best season as a professional, won the title in Los Cabos, Mexico, earlier this year and also reached the Wimbledon doubles final.

Thompson will be ranked 35th when the final rankings are released.

The Tour schedule will now focus on the 500-level event in Washington, D.C.

Unfortunately, the Atlanta Open held its tournament in Georgia for the last time in 2024. The event will be moved to 2025.
