Kermit man arrested after touching himself in front of his neighbor

WINKLER COUNTY, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – A Kermit man was arrested Friday after allegedly exposing himself in public on more than one occasion.

According to WCSO, officers responded to a call to a residence in the 800 block of South Avenue D on Friday, July 26, in reference to a report of a public nuisance.

The plaintiff reported that she returned to her home and while she was sitting on her driveway, her neighbor, 53-year-old Alfonso Chavez of Kermit, Texas, removed a piece of plywood covering an otherwise open window of his home. Chavez then allegedly began exposing himself in public view and touching himself inappropriately. The plaintiff provided officers with video evidence of the offense.

The plaintiff also said that Chavez had committed this offense in the past and that a report had been filed with the police department, but no charges were ever filed. A WCSO officer obtained a warrant for Chavez’s arrest. This warrant was executed at Chavez’s apartment, where Chavez was found hiding under a bed and refusing to come out.

When officers entered the home, Chavez reportedly turned himself in and was taken to the Winkler County Detention Center. He was charged with two or more prior convictions for exhibitionism, a crime punishable by prison time.
