Lincoln County inmate dies in workplace accident caused by electrocution

LINCOLN COUNTY, Arkansas – Arkansas Board of Corrections officials said an inmate died Friday from electrocution in an industrial accident at the Arkansas Department of Corrections’ Varner Unit.

Correctional officials said Brian Walker, 53, was doing maintenance work in the building and installing lights when he apparently touched a live wire.


Hospital staff immediately initiated life-saving measures on scene and Walker was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officials said Walker had been convicted of bad checks and drunken driving since 1991.th Crime: Theft by receiving stolen property, burglary. Walker was serving a 40-year prison sentence in Pulaski County for a rape conviction in 2007.

This is the second time in July that an inmate in Arkansas has died in a workplace accident due to electrocution, following an incident on July 12 at a Benton Work Release Unit.
