Arrest after ‘sword attack’ on man in Co Down – The Irish News

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he was allegedly attacked with a sword in Co Down.

Police arrived at the scene at a house in Newcastle’s Ballaghbeg Park early on Sunday morning. The victim suffered facial injuries and a “serious arm injury”. He was reportedly struck repeatedly on the head with an object.

A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence and possession of an article with a blade or sharp object in a public place.

A police spokesman said: “He is currently still in police custody and is assisting with the investigation.”

“Our investigation is ongoing and we ask anyone who has any helpful information or who witnessed the incident to contact us.”
