Bills Camp Preview: What is Dalton Kincaid’s potential?

Bills training camp is just days away. To help you get ready, we’ll be taking you through a position group each day leading up to the first practice at St. John Fisher. We’ll analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each position and see which player or factor will make the biggest difference to that position’s 2024 outlook.

Today we’re going to focus on tight ends. If you missed any of our other previews, here’s where you can catch up: quarterbacks, wide receivers, running backs, offensive line.

Strong point: Ability to play big

It starts with Dalton Kincaid, who Bills fans hope has only scratched the surface of what he can do before and after the catch.

But don’t forget Dawson Knox, who has proven he can make big catches and make tackles miss.

Quintin Morris has two touchdowns and seven first downs on just 10 career receptions. Keep an eye on 6-foot-1 Zach Davidson, who has had a breakout spring.

Weakness: Blocking

This is primarily a Kincaid piece, as he’s likely to get the most shots this season.

However, he improved late in the season, mainly because it would have been harder to get worse.

Knox is okay but not spectacular, and Morris is average. There’s a reason Buffalo uses a good dose of extra-lineman formations.

X-Factor: The Jump of the Year 2

Kincaid had a very good rookie season. But as a first-rounder that Buffalo traded for, more is expected — or so we hope.

His route tree expanded over the latter part of last year. He became more intermediate and had more deep shots. The natural progression of a young player should translate into greater production.

But will Kincaid simply be a reliable tight end this year, or will we see him dominate? As a top-three pass-catching weapon, anything from one end to the other seems reasonable.
