Motorcyclist from Uintah County crashes across country, fatally injured minutes before returning home

NAPLES, Uintah County – A Uintah County man riding his motorcycle across the country was killed in a crash just minutes from his home Saturday.

A black Mazda was traveling on U.S. 40 near 2200 East in Naples around 10:30 p.m. when the driver turned left, striking a westbound motorcycle. The motorcyclist struck the Mazda and the driver, Jason Schultz, was ejected from the motorcycle, the Utah Highway Patrol said in a statement Wednesday.

Schultz was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but UHP said he later died. Three occupants of the Mazda suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital.

A fundraiser* for the Schultz family said he was almost home after traveling back from the East Coast, where he helped his son, a soldier, return to his duty station. The fundraiser said Schultz’s dream had been to ride a motorcycle across the country.
