Two people shot after vigil for three men killed in accident in PG

County police say a man was killed and a woman was injured when shots were fired following a vigil for three former Prince George’s County High School football stars who died in a car crash on July 6.

The two shooting victims were found in or near the Wise High School parking lot about 45 minutes after the heartfelt, quiet ceremony honoring the three former Wise players.

The players were 24-year-old rookie Khyree Jackson of the Minnesota Vikings and his former teammates Anthony Lytton Jr. (24) and Isaiah Hazel (23). All attended Wise School in Upper Marlboro before playing college football.

Hundreds attended the vigil in the school gymnasium and heard the three praised for their qualities of determination, willpower, energy, personality and joyful enthusiasm for football.

The fatal car crash occurred at 3:15 a.m. on Route 4 near Presidential Parkway. The three men were traveling in a car driven by Hazel when their vehicle and a second car were struck by a third.

The vehicle changed lanes at high speed, state police said.

After the collision, the men’s car left the road and hit tree stumps, police said.

The shooting Friday night occurred around 10 p.m., county police said. The vigil ended around 9:15 p.m. A witness said cars were slowly leaving the school parking lot.

It was not immediately clear if and how the fatal shooting was related to the vigil.

Both gunshot victims were taken to a hospital. The man died. The woman’s injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

None of the victims were identified by name and no age was given.

A weapon was subsequently confiscated, police said.
