Sandusky man among three killed in Seneca County crash

A 67-year-old Sandusky man and two others died July 11 in a three-vehicle crash on State Route 18 at County Road 24 in Scipio Township, Seneca County, according to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Norwalk Post.

Richard Miller died in the crash along with 41-year-old Joseph Miller and 13-year-old Conner Miller, both of Vickery in Sandusky County, the news release said.

The preliminary investigation revealed that at 10:53 a.m., a Ram Promaster driven by a 57-year-old man from Janera, Ohio, was traveling west on County Road 24, the release said. The Janera man failed to stop at a stop sign on Route 18 and collided with a Ford F-250 traveling northeast, driven by Joseph Miller.

Richard Miller and Conner Miller were passengers.

A southwest-bound Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by a 42-year-old man from Tampa, Florida, then struck the F-250 and the Promaster.

The F-250 and Freightliner continued past the southwest corner of the intersection, where both vehicles overturned. The Freightliner struck a utility pole and the F-250 caught fire, the news release said.

The man from Janera suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.

The Tampa man also suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, Seneca County EMS, Mercy Health Life Flight, Scipio-Republic Fire Department, John’s Welding and Towing, Seneca County Coroner’s Office and the Ohio Department of Transportation.

The incident remains under investigation.
