Strasbourg police officer honored for responding to chainsaw accident

STRASBOURG (WJER) (May 9, 2024) – A village police officer is credited with saving someone’s life.

During Tuesday’s Village Council meeting, representatives from Cleveland Clinic and Mercy Hospital presented Kayla Morrison with a Challenge Coin Award for her actions on April 27.

“They responded to a person injured by a chainsaw. When you arrived, you quickly applied a tourniquet. The patient was transported to Mercy Hospital where an artery injury was discovered and he was taken to surgery for repairs.”

Thanks to her efforts, the patient made a full recovery.

“We normally give these to EMS, but you totally deserve it.”

Police Chief Dave Warrick says he couldn’t be prouder of Morrison, who was promoted to sergeant earlier in the evening.

“I was pleased to hear that she would be recognized for it. She told me the day after it happened and she just chalked it up to her day job, but she was very confident in what she was doing and I wouldn’t expect anything less from her.”

The former marine and veterinary technician joined the department two years ago this summer and recently completed trauma response training.
