2 dead, 1 injured in shooting near Kissimmee

Two men were killed and another injured in a suspected drug-related shooting at an apartment complex near Kissimmee early Tuesday, Osceola Sheriff Marcos Lopez said.

Shortly after midnight, officers received a call about shots fired at the Rapallo apartment complex on Marta Circle near The Loop shopping center, Lopez said at a news conference Tuesday morning.

When officers arrived, they found two men, aged between 20 and 30, with gunshot wounds in one of the hallways of the apartment complex and a third man who had been shot under some bushes, Lopez said.

The sheriff said one of the men found in the hallway died at the scene from his injuries and the other was taken to a nearby hospital where he died. The third man was taken to a nearby hospital where his condition is unknown.

Lopez said investigators have a suspect in custody.

He said it was an isolated incident and that based on evidence found at the scene, it was believed to be drugs. The men knew each other, but only one lived in the complex, the others were not from the area.

“It was basically an open corral shootout,” Lopez said. “It’s crazy because there are a lot of citizens living here, but thank God there was hardly anyone outside at the time the incident happened.”

Lopez said there is no active threat to the community and the sheriff’s office believes everyone involved is in custody, but the investigation is ongoing.

“As we put the pieces of the puzzle together, we’ll learn a little more about what and how this happened,” he said.
