Police recover stolen French bulldog Yurman

A French bulldog, a relatively expensive pet, was seized by officials and returned to its owner Saturday evening after it was kidnapped at gunpoint in southeast Washington a week earlier, according to Washington DC police.

“Good news!” police said in a message on social media on Saturday evening.

Violent Crimes Unit officers “recovered Yurman the French bulldog this evening.”

“Yurman is now back with his owner,” police said.

Yurman is a two-year-old black male. It is unclear who found him and how. No information has been given about arrests or charges.

Yurman’s owner was walking her dog in the 1700 block of Fort Davis Street SE around 8:20 p.m. on June 29 when someone approached her with a gun, police said.

Police reported the robbery twice on social media, once immediately afterward and again on Wednesday with a short surveillance video.

There have been numerous thefts of French bulldogs in the district and across the country.

In November, three of them were arrested at gunpoint while walking near the 5200 block of East Capitol Street, police said.

Authorities said the robbers jumped out of a vehicle and took the animals with them.

Many of the dogs brought here were found again.

Purebred French Bulldogs can sell for several thousand dollars and appear to be highly sought after as pets, with authorities saying they are often picked up for sale.
