Atlanta Braves News: Ian Anderson’s Rehab, Spencer Schwellenbach, and More

The major league club looked good on Saturday, with a strong start from their rookie pitcher and some power from the offense. Spencer Schwellenbach is off to his best start in the major leagues and he looks really promising this season. His xFIP is currently at 3.60 and his FIP is at 3.56 on the season, both of which are really solid numbers. His ERA is a bit inflated at the moment, but those peripheral numbers are pretty encouraging. He also has a solid strikeout rate, does a good job of limiting walks and drawing runs and whiffs, while avoiding barrels. He really stepped into the fifth starter spot when the Braves really needed him and there could very well be more upside for him. He’s still a very inexperienced pitcher, playing mostly shortstop in college and getting Tommy John right away after being drafted. He could be one of the most fascinating players to watch develop at the major league level and is already becoming a valuable contributor for Atlanta.

Braves News

Ian Anderson continues his rehab and he dominated in Low-A on Saturday for 3.1 innings. He’s only in Low-A, so he should dominate, but he’s definitely worth following as he gets stronger.

Spencer Schwellenbach pitched his best major league outing to date over 6.0 innings, while the offense showed power en route to a relatively easy 5-1 victory.
