Estranged husband attacks wife with knife at railway station in Maharashtra’s Virar, arrested | Mumbai News

A man allegedly tried to kill his estranged wife by attacking her with a knife at Virar railway station in Maharashtra on Wednesday morning, police said.

Shiva Sharma, a 30-40-year-old Delhi resident, was nabbed by Railway Protection Force (RPF) policemen and handed over to Vasai Government Railway Police (GRP), who registered his arrest. They said he had attacked his wife Bishila, 27, who was going to work, on the footbridge on the south side of Virar railway station around 7.30 am.

Sharma allegedly stabbed his wife several times with the knife, causing injuries on both hands, neck and near the eyes. The woman tried to fight back and cut off her fingers, police said. Sharma also tried to strangle her with her dupatta, but in vain, they added.

Her screams prompted RPF personnel and locals to rush to the scene and grab Sharma. They took Bishila to Sanjivni Hospital where she was treated.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the couple had been living apart for quite some time. Sharma had come to Virar, where Bishila was staying with her mother, and asked her to return to Delhi with him. However, Bishila refused to go with him, police said.

Festive offer

“The woman is working somewhere while the accused is unemployed and asks her for money. He is also an addict. Due to their personal disputes, the accused attacked his wife,” said Inspector Bhagwan Dange of Vasai GRP.

“The woman is now out of danger. After taking statements from family members and relatives of both sides, the exact reason for the attack will be ascertained. The investigation is ongoing,” Dange added.

According to a police source, the couple went to Virar police station on Tuesday to file a complaint against each other over the dispute, but no case was registered.
