Prison officer summoned after investigation into misconduct

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) – A correctional officer at the Williamson County Jail is facing two felony charges following an internal misconduct investigation.

According to Williamson County Sheriff Jeff Diederich, the sheriff’s office received a complaint from an individual recently released from custody at the Williamson County Jail describing an incident in which a correctional officer used excessive force on June 28.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office conducted an internal investigation and found sufficient evidence, including video.

Correctional Officer Jeffrey L. Stallings was charged with aggravated assault and abuse of authority, both Class 3 felonies.

Stallings was taken into custody and is currently being housed at a nearby county jail due to his previous stay at that facility, according to a press release.

In addition, four other prison officers were suspended while retaining their salaries.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges are expected.
