Terre Haute man dead after altercation in Edgar County

Kansas, Illinois (WTWO) – A Terre Haute man died Friday following an altercation in Kansas, Illinois.

In Edgar County, Illinois State Police were called to a shooting in the 300 block of Cook Drive in Kansas around 3:30 p.m.


According to the Champaign County Coroner’s Office, 34-year-old Xavier T. Harris of Terre Haute self-inflicted a gunshot wound during the altercation. Harris was flown by helicopter to Carle Foundation Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, July 1. The Illinois State Police and the Champaign County Coroner’s Office will continue to investigate the altercation.
