Ottawa man charged with possession of child pornography after lengthy investigation

An Ottawa man has been charged with five Class 2 felonies after child pornography was discovered during an investigation in April.

According to a press release, Ottawa Police received a report of an alleged sexual offence involving a man and an underage girl. Police identified 39-year-old Cody Haywood as a suspect and seized his phone during the investigation. A search warrant was obtained for a forensic examination of Haywood’s phone, during which investigators found several images of videos containing child pornography stored on the phone. Search warrants were obtained for Haywood’s social media accounts and additional images and videos containing child pornography were found.

The investigation was referred to the LaSalle County District Attorney’s Office, which issued Haywood a subpoena charging him with five counts of possession of child pornography. Haywood’s first court date is scheduled for July 17.
