Ludhiana: 19-year-old sentenced to six months in prison for raping underage neighbour

Basti Jodhewal police arrested a 19-year-old boy for allegedly raping his 13-year-old neighbour for six months, officials said.

According to police, the accused threatened the minor to keep quiet about the crime. The accused threatened the minor that he would kill her and her family members if she told anyone about the crime.

The 13-year-old gathered all her courage and told her mother about the incident, who went with her to the police and filed a report.

The accused was identified as Rustom of Janta Colony in Rahon Road.

In the complaint, the woman stated that her daughter had befriended the accused six months ago. The accused had come to her house in her absence and raped her daughter, the complainant added.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Balkar Singh, who is investigating the case, said the police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the absconding accused.

According to police, the accused is a resident of Siramari in Bihar and is suspected to have fled to his hometown.

Officials said efforts were being made to arrest the accused.

A case has been registered against the accused at Basti Jodhewal police station under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which prescribes punishment for rape.
