Shooting today in South Shore, Chicago: Police report man killed and injured in the 2100 block of East 71st Street

CHICAGO (WLS) — According to Chicago police, one man is dead and another injured after a shooting on the city’s south side Monday evening.

Police said the shooting occurred shortly after 6:45 p.m. in the 2100 block of East 71st Street in the South Shore neighborhood.

Two men, ages 53 and 74, were standing near an alley when someone fired shots, police said.

The 53-year-old man with the gunshot wound to the back was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The 74-year-old man, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body, was taken to the same hospital in good condition.

No one is in custody and Area One detectives are investigating.
