Sexual assault in Queens: NYPD releases video of suspect after rape of 13-year-old girl in Kissena Park in Flushing

FLUSHING, Queens (WABC) – New York police have released surveillance video of the suspect wanted for sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl in a remote part of Kissena Park in Queens last week.

A surveillance video shows the man wanted by the police on a bicycle.

The new developments come after the NYPD offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the man’s arrest and conviction.

The video in the media player above is from an earlier report.

The incident occurred on Thursday around 3:30 p.m. in Flushing Park.

According to police, two schoolmates, a 13-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy, were in a park near the corner of Colden Street and Kalmia Avenue when they were approached by a man who pulled out a “large machete-like knife” and chased them into the woods.

The perpetrator then took the mobile phones from both victims, tied the boy and girl’s wrists with a shoelace and sexually abused the female victim before fleeing.

The teenagers were taken to hospital in stable condition after returning to school to report what had happened to them.

Investigators recovered the shoelace used to tie the children’s hands together, as well as a water bottle left behind by the rapist.

“As a father and long-time member of this department, this incident is every parent’s nightmare,” said NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey.

Authorities describe the wanted suspect as a 5’5″ man in his 20s with curly hair wearing a black shirt, black pants, red sneakers and a green backpack. He appeared to wear braces and had a large tattoo on his chest depicting either a wild boar or a pig.

“The entire police force is focused on obtaining justice for this young survivor,” said Joe Kenny, chief of the NYPD’s Criminal Investigation Division.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
