Accident of the Kanchenjunga Express train in Darjeeling

A container freight train collided with a Kanchanjunga Express passenger train near Rangapani railway station in north Bengal. An official statement on the accident said the container train missed the signal and crashed into the rear of the Kanchanjunga train.

The death toll is currently estimated at two, but could be higher. Images from the scene of the accident show a distressed passenger desperately fighting for help.

The National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF), a detachment team of the Indian Railways and 15 ambulances are said to have arrived at the scene of the accident.
