Conway man pleads guilty to sexual assault and gets 10 years

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – A Horry County man will spend a decade behind bars after pleading guilty to a sexual assault case.

The 15th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said Alfonzo Jones, 43, of Conway, pleaded guilty Wednesday to third-degree sexual abuse. A judge later sentenced him to 10 years in prison, the maximum sentence.

Prosecutors said the verdict stemmed from a December 2021 incident in Conway in which Jones sexually assaulted the victim. The victim told a family member what happened and notified police, who later arrested Jones.

The judge also issued a restraining order against Jones, prohibiting him from having any contact with the victim after his release. Jones must also register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
