Three Bangladeshi migrant workers were killed in a road accident on Thursday while on their way to their construction site in Saudi Arabia.

The victims are Sabuj Chowkidar, 38, son of Jamal Chowkidar of Paschim Bishkatali village in Faridganj upazila, Md Sabbir, 21, son of Md Ismail Chayal of Charbhanga village in Haimchar upazila and Md Rifat, 20, son of Delwar Hossain of Kamalapur village in Algi North Union.

They were residents of Faridganj and Haimchar upazilas in Chandpur.

The accident occurred on Thursday around 9:00 a.m. (local time) on the way to work in Afif, a city in Saudi Arabia.

Jamal Chowkidar, father of victim Sabuj Chowkidar, said they received information about the accident around 4 p.m. on Thursday.

They were later taken to a local hospital, where doctors declared three people, including Sabuj, dead at around 10 p.m., he said, citing relatives living in Saudi Arabia.

Sabuj was driving the car at the time of the accident, he added.

He also said that his son Sabuj went to Saudi Arabia about 18 years ago. He had visited the country several times. He has a wife and two daughters.

They were also taken to Saudi Arabia on travel visas several times. Two weeks ago he took his wife and children to Saudi Arabia again. They are still there.

Rifat’s father Delwar Hossain said he had spoken to his son a few days ago. “My son promised to celebrate Eid with us, but he did not keep his promise,” he lamented.

The families of the victims urge the relevant government authorities to assist in the repatriation of their sons’ bodies.

Umme Salma Nazneen Trisha, official of Haimchar Upazila Nirbahi, said they have not yet been informed by the families of those killed in the accident in Saudi Arabia.

She, however, said that after notification, all kinds of assistance would be provided to the families of the deceased in repatriating the bodies.
