Tornado Alert for UCF: Warnings issued for Azalea Park, Winter Park and Seminole County

The University of Central Florida (UCF) issued a tornado warning for its main campus, urging students and staff to seek shelter immediately. The announcement, posted on the UCF police Twitter account, advised people to seek shelter in the nearest building, away from doors and windows.

The University of Central Florida (UCF) issued a tornado Warning for the main campus. Parts of Central Florida, including south-central Seminole County and central Orange County, were also given the warning. These include UCF, Oviedo, Winter Springs and Winter Park. The warning is in effect until 7:45 p.m. local time, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

UCF issued the warning on their official Twitter account (now known as X). They urged people on the main campus to immediately seek shelter in the nearest building – away from doors and windows. The NWS reported a severe thunderstorm that could produce a tornado over Azalea Park. It was expected to move northeast at 20 mph shortly after 7 p.m. The tornado warning was indicated by radar. Hailstones the size of quarters were also possible.

The NWS continues to issue several warnings. A severe weather warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. It covers areas including Seminole, Lake County to the east, Orange County to the center and Volusia County to the south. At 7:30 p.m., severe thunderstorms were reported from Wekiva Springs to Lake Jessup to near Christmas. The storm was moving northeast at 25 mph. Hazards include 60 mph wind gusts and hailstones the size of quarters. Damage to vehicles, roofs, siding and trees was expected.
