Man charged with sexually abusing a minor in a Horry County home

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A Galivants Ferry man was arrested and accused of sexually assaulting a minor in April.

Horry County Police were called to a Conway-area home around 6 a.m. on April 22 for a report of a previous sexual assault.

The victim told police that she had moved away from the home in Gallivants Ferry where the alleged assault occurred on April 15.

That morning, Jamar Jakes held down and raped the minor, according to arrest warrants. The warrants also state that the victim contracted two sexually transmitted diseases as a result of the assault..

During the interview with police, the victim added that Jakes “continuously” watched her alter and made inappropriate comments to her, a police report said.

Jakes faces several charges, including first-degree sexual abuse and violation of the Sexually Transmitted Diseases Act.

Authorities took him to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Thursday.

In this case, a woman was also charged for failing to report the incident to authorities.
