Autopsy: Elderly man found in backyard, had been dead for a month

(InTime News)

The autopsy of the charred body of an elderly man found in the backyard of a house in northern Athens on Friday evening revealed that the deceased had been dead for about a month.

However, the coroner could not determine the cause of death of the 82-year-old.

The police were alerted to the crime scene in Ano Liosia by neighbors who complained about a stench coming from the property and found the remains on a burnt mattress.

They then arrested the deceased 59-year-old son, who was diagnosed with mental health problems.

The son told police that his father had died some time ago and that because he could not bear the smell, he tried to burn his body.

Meanwhile, the police have also found body parts, including a head and legs, in a garbage can near the crime scene, which presumably belong to the 82-year-old, especially since an axe and a saw were found on the son.

The autopsy revealed numerous post-mortem wounds on the body.

The 59-year-old is accused of failing to report a death, making false statements to the authorities and illegal possession of weapons.
