50 Cent has filed a defamation lawsuit against his ex-girlfriend Daphne Joy, more than a month after she publicly accused him of rape and physical abuse in an Instagram post.

The rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, filed the lawsuit in Texas on Monday, May 6, claiming his ex’s “false allegations” subjected the star to “extensive public ridicule, hatred and contempt” and her The post was a “deliberate attempt” to tarnish his reputation and prevent him from seeing her 11-year-old son, Sire.

The court documents obtained by PEOPLE come from a March 28 Instagram post from Joy, whose real name is Daphne Narvaez. In the post, Narvaez, 37, wrote that she and Sire moved to New York to be closer to Jackson, but the “In da Club” rapper, 48, had only seen his son 10 times in two years.

“I am tired of maintaining and protecting an image of our son that you have never deserved. Let’s really focus on your true evil deeds of raping and physically abusing me,” she wrote.

Jackson’s attorney, Reena Jain of Blank Rome, tells PEOPLE in a statement: “Although Ms. Narvaez had ample opportunity to withdraw a false and malicious retaliatory accusation, she disgracefully chose to disrupt her 11-year-old son’s relationship with his loving father. “He mistakenly called him a ‘rapist’.”

An attorney for Narvaez did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

According to Jackson’s filing, Narvaez shared her post the same day reports surfaced that Jackson was seeking custody of her son after a lawsuit was filed in March that called Narvaez a “sex worker” (that lawsuit was filed by producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones filed against Sean). “Diddy” Combs).

The documents say Narvaez “retaliated” against Jackson’s custody request by posting “several defamatory statements” on Instagram in which he “falsely and publicly accused Jackson of rape and physical abuse during their previous relationship, in a targeted manner.” Attempt to…destroy his personal and business reputation.”, harm Jackson’s commercial and business interests, negatively impact his custody case, and prevent him from seeing his minor son. He is seeking more than $1 million in damages, claiming he was hit by “a barrage of terrible online comments” and that Narvaez posted her statement “out of pure hatred and ill will toward Jackson.”

Jackson was charged with domestic violence against Narvaez in 2013 and pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of vandalism after he allegedly kicked her in the stomach and destroyed her property during an argument. The rapper struck a deal with the Los Angeles district attorney’s office for three years of probation and 30 days of community service.

Although Narvaez has not yet publicly responded to Jackson’s lawsuit, in a March 28 Instagram post she refuted the claims Jones made in his lawsuit against Combs.

“The lies in Rodney Jones’ lawsuit hurt me deeply. The claim that I am a sex worker is 100% false and character assassination,” she wrote. “I am retaining an attorney to review all legal remedies against Rodney and his attorney.”
