Second suspect arrested in Laurens County shooting that killed teenager

LAURENS COUNTY, SC (WSPA) — Officials with the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office have made another arrest in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred at the Ware Shoals Dragway in May.

Officers arrested Travis Dewayne Jr. of Greenwood in connection with the shooting. Turner was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.


According to the sheriff’s office, a large police presence was deployed near the Ware Shoals Dragway at around 7:40 p.m. on May 11, where one person was shot.

The Laurens County Coroner’s Office confirmed that 17-year-old Calvin Lamont Parker Jr. died of a gunshot wound.

Investigators asked the public to share videos taken shortly before, during and after the incident.

The first arrest in the case was made on May 18. Kendrick Beanard Makins was taken into custody in Abbeville County. Makins was charged with the murder of Parker Jr.
