Police kill suspect, arrest three after shooting in Miami Gardens – NBC 6 South Florida

One person was killed after a group of men returned fire on officers in Miami Gardens late Thursday night, according to police.

The shooting occurred near NW 27th Place at 163rd Street.

Miami Gardens police officers and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) were on a joint operation when they heard gunshots and rushed to the scene, authorities said.

When officers arrived, a group of suspects opened fire on the officers.

According to authorities, at least two police officers and an ATF agent returned fire, hitting and killing one of the shooters.

Three other people were arrested. Officers seized two weapons, police said.

“We do not take this lightly,” said Miami Gardens Police Chief Delma Noel-Pratt. “If people are bold enough to shoot at our officers and commit violent crimes out here, they will be punished accordingly.”

Christopher A. Robinson, ATF special agent in charge, said authorities were on patrol “in response to violent crime in the area.”

On May 15, surveillance video captured a neighborhood in Miami Gardens shaking up the use of high-powered weapons.

It was a targeted incident related to gang crime, said the police chief at the time.

No officers were injured and police believe there is no further threat to the community.
