Missing child found dead in Redwood River

After an initial investigation, department officials launched a search for the child.

MARSHALL, Minnesota – A missing toddler was tragically found dead in a river in Marshall, Minnesota, Wednesday evening.

The Marshall Police Department was initially called to the 200 block of South 4th Street at 4:45 p.m. for a missing child, according to a department news release.

Following an initial investigation, department officers received assistance from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and other local first responders and conducted a search.

At around 5:20 p.m., an unconscious four-year-old boy was found in the Redwood River near the intersection of Kossuth and 7th Streets.

Rescue workers attempted life-saving measures at the scene and en route to the hospital, but the boy was later pronounced dead at Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center.

The investigation into this case is ongoing, but no crime is suspected, the press release states.
