South London sex offender who raped teenager in 1990s faces prison sentence

A south London rapist who abused a teenager in the 1990s has been sentenced to prison almost three decades later.

Colin Moore, 57, was found guilty of four counts of rape and five counts of sexual assault following a trial at Isleworth Crown Court on Friday.

The court heard how Moore, of Grove Lane, Camberwell, abused the girl over a period of four years in locations in west and central London.

The victim was under 16 years old when Moore began his crimes in 1995.

In 2020, the victim, now an adult, reported the abuse she suffered at the hands of Moore, leading to his arrest and indictment.

Met Detective Sergeant Laura Harcombe said: “Colin Moore is a sexual offender who manipulated and abused a vulnerable young girl he knew.

“Even when interviewed, he tried to portray his behavior as acceptable in many situations, which couldn’t be further from the truth.

“This woman has shown great courage by coming forward and reporting the abuse she has suffered over a long period of time to the police.

“We have specially trained officers who have supported her throughout the process and I can only hope that Moore’s conviction brings her some sort of closure.”

Moore was remanded in custody pending sentencing at the same court on September 9, 2024.
