A police official said the woman, a terminally ill patient, was shifted to a private hospital on Hulimavu Bannerghatta Road on Sunday after complaining of breathing difficulties. She was admitted to the intensive care unit, where she later collapsed and died.

According to a first information report (FIR), the woman alleged that the 81-year-old politician indecently touched and abused her daughter in his room on February 2 when she went there to seek help.

The sexual assault case is currently being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department, which has recorded the statements of the woman and her daughter before a Justice of the Peace under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

BS Yediyurappa has denied the allegations and stressed that the woman and his daughter had approached him several times demanding justice and that he had referred them to the police commissioner for action.

Police officials said that despite the woman’s death, the investigation into the case will continue based on the statements recorded so far:
