IDF: Deadly attack on Rafah under investigation

Israel Defense Forces Military Advocate General Major General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi said on Monday that a deadly attack in Rafah that reportedly killed 35 people was being investigated.

“Of course, in a war of such scale and intensity, difficult events happen,” she said at a meeting of the Israeli Bar Association in Eilat. “The details of the event are still being examined, and we are determined to see it through to the end.”

“The Israel Defense Forces regret any harm caused to innocent civilians during the war,” she said, noting that “there are also incidents that violate the laws of war and military orders. However, these are exceptions, not the rule.”

She said 70 military police investigations had been launched since the war began.

The attack on Rafah was condemned internationally. Saudi Arabia condemned the alleged Israeli “massacres” of Palestinians. French President Emmanuel Macron also expressed his “outrage”.

The army was also condemned for its conduct in the Sde Teiman prison camp, where Gaza terrorists are held.

Tomer-Yerushalmi added that the military had launched an investigation into allegations that Israeli prison guards had committed crimes at the facility.
