2 dead, 3 injured in shooting in Pembroke Township

PEMBROKE TOWNSHIP, Ill. – Two men are dead and three others injured after a shooting in Pembroke Township Friday night.

Kankakee County officials said they were called to the area of ​​13100 East Central Street shortly before midnight Friday after reports of gunshots in the area.


When police arrived on the scene, they found two large groups of people attending two different parties in a nearby banquet hall, many of whom were already fleeing when they arrived.

Authorities eventually found five victims, all of whom had suffered gunshot wounds. Two of the victims later succumbed to their injuries.

Authorities have since identified the victims as 44-year-old Milton Sykes, a Kankakee resident who died after being taken to the hospital, and 32-year-old Edward Colon, a Chicago resident who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities did not provide any further information on the condition of the other three victims.

What led to the shooting is currently unclear; investigations are ongoing.
