Strong risk of storms until the holiday weekend

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Weather days of the first warning remain in effect for Friday, Saturday and Sunday as parts of the Midstate are under the threat of strong to severe storms.

FRIDAY

Some strong to severe storms are expected in the Midwest as early as late morning and during the afternoon.

Keep an eye on the skies and be prepared for the weather, as there is a chance of torrential rain, damaging wind gusts, and maybe some hail. The risk of tornadoes is very low, but I wouldn’t say it’s zero.

Maximum temperatures today will be between 25 and 27 degrees. These storms will be mainly caused by the heat of the day, so they will dissipate in the evening.

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

The unsettled weather will continue over the holiday weekend, BUT you don’t have to cancel all your plans

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across the region on Saturday. The severe threat has eased across the Mid-State for Saturday, but a First weather warning day will continue as each storm can bring heavy rains and frequent lightning.

These storms will also be very uncertain, so there is NO need to cancel your plans, just keep an eye on the skies throughout the day. Highs on Saturday will be around 30 degrees.

A First weather warning day is in effect Sunday. A large line of strong to severe thunderstorms is possible, with damaging winds, large hail, localized flooding, and isolated tornadoes. Storms will begin to develop early in the afternoon, but we expect the greater threat of severe weather to develop in the evening.

Make sure you and your family have a plan for where to go in the event of a tornado warning.

On Memorial Day, the weather will drier a bit as the day progresses. While there will still be some sudden showers, everything should be much more isolated. Highs on Memorial Day will stay around 30 degrees and there will even be some sunshine again.

NEXT WEEK

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be dry and mostly sunny, with cooler air moving into the central states. Highs on all three days will be between 25 and 27 degrees.
