“Walking Dead” spinoff series is set to film in Attleboro

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — If you live in Attleboro or are spending time in the city next week, beware of zombies.

Attleboro Mayor Cathleen Desimone confirmed Friday that AMC will be in town to film the second season of “Walking Dead: Dead City.”

Desimone said AMC will film scenes for “The Walking Dead” spinoff series at the former Locust Valley Golf Course as well as the old Highland Country Club.

According to Desimone, AMC plans to transform the golf course into a “rundown” Central Park, while Highland’s clubhouse in that park will resemble a boathouse.

“It should remain a secret, but word gets out,” she said. “But it’s really exciting, I’m glad to have her. I don’t know when the last time we showed a movie here was, so if we get on the map…come on over. We are open for business.”

Desimone said that since she is a fan of The Walking Dead herself, she is hoping for a supporting role.

The spin-off “The Walking Dead” stars Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, whose characters were first introduced in the original franchise.

The series follows Maggie (Lauren Cohan) through a post-apocalyptic Manhattan as she searches for her kidnapped son Heschel. She is forced to rely on Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), who killed her husband in the original series, for help.

This is one of several spin-off series to launch since the original series finale in November 2022.

AMC also filmed scenes for the spin-off series in Taunton and Worcester.

It’s unclear when exactly filming will begin next week.
