Pawhuska dance concert in honor of two girls killed in an accident in 2023

A special event will be dedicated to the two young women who died in a car accident in Osage County in 2023.

Four people were killed in the accident on Highway 99 just before Christmas.

Grace and Katie Adair were in a car on their way to their grandmothers for shopping.

This weekend there is a dance concert called “Grace and Hope” named after the girls and featuring their other sister.

“She’s the reason they danced in the first place,” said her mother, Jennifer Adair.

While Penny Potts gets some last-minute practice, she takes the same steps as her sister Grace did last year when she gave the same performance.

“When I dance it, I can almost feel her dancing with me and it feels really good,” Penny said.

Dance Maker Academy dedicates its spring concert to Grace and Katie Adair, titled Grace and Hope.

Katie’s middle name is Hope.

“It was just beautiful,” said Jennifer, her mother.

The show features approximately 65 artists ages 3 and up, performing an extended version of Grace’s song.

“Whenever these kids performed it for the first time, oh man, it took my breath away just hearing it. And it really makes me feel good that Penny gets to dance the role that Grace did and the kids join in that role. “That Grace didn’t do it,” Jennifer said.

Jennifer said her daughters were students and teachers at the dance academy.

Grace had just graduated high school and was planning to open her own salon.

Katie pursued her passion for culinary arts and dreamed of opening a restaurant.

“They weren’t alike at all. Grace was an absolute idiot. Just an idiot, she was always laughing and joking, all the time. Katie (was) more reserved, you could tell when she was angry, she could tell,” Penny said.

Now Penny is using her appearance to send a message to her community.

“Don’t grieve my sisters. Don’t grieve them. Be happy for them, because they knew the Lord and knew where they were going, and we know where we are going, and we know we will get there, to meet them in heaven one day,” Penny said.

Performances at the Constantine Theater take place Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m

The family said they want this to be a healing experience for the community and for the audience to feel joy.
