SCHP investigates fatal car accident

Florence, SC (WOLO) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate a fatal crash that reportedly occurred Wednesday evening. According to authorities, the driver of the car was traveling north on U.S. Highway 301 near Rushmore Loop and was attempting to elude police.

In an attempt to evade law enforcement, the driver went off the right side of the road and struck a guardrail and several trees, according to the Highway Patrol. According to officials, the driver was taken to an area hospital where he later died from injuries sustained in the accident.

According to authorities, there was no contact between police officers and the driver. No other cars were involved in the accident and the driver was the only occupant of the vehicle.
