Man dies after being struck by train in Rochester

A man is dead after being struck by a train in Rochester Saturday night.

According to Rochester police, officers responded to Civic Center Drive Northwest and First Avenue Northwest around 10:45 p.m. for a report that a man had been struck by a train.

Witnesses report that the train was crossing the intersection when a man got too close to a passing freight car and was hit. He was taken to hospital and died a short time later.

Authorities identified the victim as a 23-year-old man from Rochester.

In another incident, while police were at the scene of a train accident, a vehicle drove through the cordoned off area and backed into a residence on First Avenue Northwest.

Officials say the driver was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and no one was injured.
