“But I wouldn’t change it.”

Although many didn’t hear Jerry Seinfeld’s Duke Commencement Address, the stand-up comedian still gave his speech and apologized for the “sexual undertones.” Bee film.

“I did a cartoon about bees that you might have seen as a kid,” he said. “If any of you felt uncomfortable about the sexual undertones in the relationship between Barry the bee and Vanessa the florist who saves his life, I would like to apologize now.”

Seinfeld continued, “I may not have calibrated this perfectly, but I wouldn’t change it.”

The comedian referenced the 2007 animated film to make the point that you shouldn’t lose your sense of humor when life gets tough.

“The slightly uncomfortable feeling of awkward humor is fine,” he said. “It’s not something that needs to be fixed.”

Although Seinfeld admired the current generation for their “ambitions to create a fairer and more inclusive society” and for not wanting to hurt other people’s feelings, he advised graduates not to lose their sense of humor.

“There’s not much life that makes sense to survive without humor,” he added.

In 2021, Seinfeld addressed the DreamWorks animated film’s sexual undertones during an appearance The Tonight Show.

“I apologize for the seemingly unpleasant, subtle sexual aspect of The Bee Movie,” he said. “(It) really wasn’t intentional, but after it came out I realized this really isn’t suitable for children. Because the bee seems to have a soft spot for the girl, and we don’t really want to pursue that as an idea in children’s entertainment.”
