Police say a suspect is wanted for assaulting an off-duty Philadelphia officer and stealing a gun

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Authorities are searching for a man suspected of attacking an off-duty officer and stealing his personal firearm Sunday morning, Philadelphia police said.

The incident occurred just before 7:15 a.m. in the 2100 block of West Oxford Street in North Philadelphia.

Police said during the incident, the officer disarmed the suspect and fired his weapon in self-defense. It is unclear whether the suspect was struck by gunfire.

According to police, the suspect fled the scene in a black BMW and struck the officer. The BMW was lost in the area of ​​9th Street and Cumberland Street, police said. The vehicle was a newer black BMW sedan with tinted windows, authorities said. According to police, the rim on the driver’s side is different than the rim on the back on the same side.

Police said the suspect was about 25 to 30 years old, had braids and was of medium build. He was last seen wearing a white tank top, tan pants and New Balance sneakers. According to police, he may also go by the nickname “Duke.” He is considered armed and dangerous.
