PFF suggests clear position need for Buffalo Bills ahead of training camp

The constant free agency moves are over, and so is the NFL Draft. Teams better understand where their roster stands and what might need improvement. The Buffalo Bills kicked off their free agency by releasing several longtime veterans due to cap space concerns.

Players like Tre’Davious White, Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer are no longer with the Bills, but were part of the culture change early on when Sean McDermott took over. Then the biggest story that happened for the Bills was the Stefon Diggs trade to the Houston Texans. Long story short, the Bills had a lot to replace throughout free agency and leading up to the NFL Draft.

Buffalo had a strong draft after being traded twice on night one, headlined by drafting wide receiver Keon Coleman. From there, the Bills were able to sign marquee talents like safety Cole Bishop, defensive tackle DeWayne Carter and offensive lineman Sedrick Van Pan-Granger. The bills look much better than they did two months ago. However, improvements are still possible.

Gordon McGuinness of Pro Football Focus has put together a list of what every AFC team should do now that the draft is over. McGuinness suggested the Bills get help at cornerback, and that’s the most obvious need for the Bills.

Cornerbacks Rasul Douglas and Christian Benford are destined to be the Bills’ starting corners in the first week of the season, but there isn’t much after them. Kaiir Elam has had a rough couple of years with the Bills and he has a lot to prove if he wants to have an extended future in Buffalo. Dane Jackson is no longer with the team after signing with the Carolina Panthers, and Tre’Davious White ends up with the Los Angeles Rams.

When it comes to the secondary, it’s hard to doubt the abilities of this unit as it seems like they always find a way to hold their own. Coming into training camp, there’s a questionable feeling about this core. If Brandon Beane is looking to make a splash at any point between now and training camp, it should be at the cornerback position, whether through a trade or in free agency.
