Kingwood High School to unveil new mural on May 13

A mural inspired by student artwork will debut at Kingwood High School on May 13.

To look closer

The art of KHS students Brielyn Dreyling and Malik Fanning inspired muralist Tara Bradley, according to a May 9 email from Humble ISD officials. The KHS mural is one of 11 created at schools in the Greater Houston area by the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship Host Committee.

The mural depicts a mustang — the KHS mascot — in a forest and features nods to the school’s history, according to district officials. The project was funded by the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority, the Houston Host Committee, the College Football Playoff Foundation and Good Reason Houston.

The specificities

On May 13, the mural dedication ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. at KHS, in the hallway outside the natatorium. According to district officials, the event will include:

  • A “Special Shoe Showcase” by Houston Loves Teachers
  • Performances or appearances by the KHS drum line, Fillies dance team, cheerleaders and members of the football team

According to district officials, event participants can:

  • Enter through the new Athletic Commons entrance, located to the left of the new third gymnasium.
  • Park in the student parking lot near the entrance
