Fourth suspect arrested in Tampa gang shooting of rapper Julio Foolio in Jacksonville

Jacksonville sheriff’s officials arrested one of the men accused of shooting a rapper in Tampa last month and negotiated his surrender early Tuesday morning after an hours-long standoff.

Deputies and U.S. Marshals tracked 30-year-old Rashad Murphy to an apartment complex on Collins Road in Jacksonville on Monday evening, the sheriff’s office announced on Facebook Tuesday morning. Police arrived at the apartment shortly after 9 p.m. and began negotiating Murphy’s surrender, while evacuating the residents.

After nearly three hours of negotiations, a sheriff’s SWAT team broke through the apartment’s window to force Murphy to leave the building. He surrendered shortly after midnight.

The arrest came less than 12 hours after Tampa police announced the arrest of three more suspects in connection with the June murder of rap artist Charles Jones, who was celebrating his 26th birthday in Tampa. Davion Murphy, the fifth man charged in the murder, remains at large. He is Rashad Murphy’s cousin and is believed to be in the Jacksonville area, according to the sheriff’s office.

Jones, known by his stage name Julio Foolio, was killed in the shooting. Three others were injured.

Police say Rashad Murphy and his cousin are both members of Ace’s Top Killers, a Jacksonville gang that rivals the Six Block gang. Police said Jones was a member of Six Block.

According to police, Rashad Murphy, Davion Murphy and Sean Gathright carried out the shooting by storming and firing at Jones’ car as the driver tried to flee.

Two others, Isaiah Chance and Alicia Andrews, are accused of traveling with the three to Tampa and helping plan the shooting, but were not directly involved. All five are charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

In a compilation of surveillance footage released Monday, police say, Rashad Murphy, armed with an automatic pistol, can be seen running with Gathright to attack Jones’ car. Davion Murphy, wearing an orange ski mask, stayed near the fence and fired a rifle at the vehicle, police said.

Rashad Murphy was booked into the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office detention center shortly after 5 a.m. and was scheduled to appear before a judge at 1 p.m.
