Hiker finds human remains near South Mountain Trail in Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZFamily) – Phoenix police are investigating after a hiker found human remains near a hiking trail on South Mountain Saturday morning.

Shortly before 10 a.m., police said, a hiker contacted a park ranger after finding the remains near the Las Lomitas hiking trail, who then called police.

Officers responded and were led to the area where they confirmed the remains were human. Shortly thereafter, detectives were called to the scene to examine the evidence.

According to police, the remains will be picked up by the coroner’s office, which will seek to confirm the identity and cause of death.
