Suspect in Myrtle Beach shooting that killed Virginia teen in custody, police say

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A suspect in the death of a Virginia teenager and basketball star is in custody.

Myrtle Beach police said they have a suspect in custody in connection with the death of Jakolbi Taylor. They will release more details, including charges against the suspect, at a later date.

Taylor, 16, was visiting Myrtle Beach with an AAU basketball team when he was shot at the beach access on 16th Avenue North on July 20.

Myrtle Beach police said their officers arrived at the scene around 1:15 a.m. Other details about the shooting are few.

Taylor’s family called him a bright spirit.
