A major stretch of southbound Interstate 163 was closed early Friday due to a fatal crash that left four people dead and two drivers arrested.

The accident was reported around 1:30 a.m. When the California Highway Patrol arrived, they found several people lying on the highway as well as two Toyota Prius and a Toyota Tacoma rolled over on its roof.

It is unclear whether there were multiple accidents.

Two people were dead at the scene of the accident and two others were taken to a local hospital where they were later pronounced dead, officials said.

The driver of the Tacoma and the driver of the Prius were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.

No identities were disclosed.

A signal warning has been issued and all southbound lanes of I-163 and traffic are being detoured to Interstate 805.

CHP told NBC 7 that lanes are expected to be closed for several hours during the investigation.
