Southwest aircraft landed at the gates on Friday, December 8, 2023, at Dallas Love Field.

A global technical failure was the main cause of flight delays at George Bush Intercontinental Airport on Friday morning.

CrowdStrike, a national cybersecurity firm, said the issue that led to groundings at nearly 100 airports around the world was not related to a cyberattack or security incident.

“CrowdStrike is actively working with customers impacted by a flaw found in a single content update for Winds hosts,” the company’s CEO George Kurtz said in a message to X. “Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted.”

The computer outage caused major disruptions at hospitals, airports and businesses around the world. As of around 5 a.m. Friday, Kurtz said the problem had been identified, isolated and a fix was underway.

The major outage has affected multiple airlines at the Houston airport, causing delays and longer wait times. The airport is asking travelers to check with airlines directly for the most recent updates on the status of their flights.

Some United Airlines flights resumed their flight schedules while the problem was still apparently active. Airports in California, Colorado, Florida and Hawaii also experienced technical outages, according to the airline.

This is a developing story.
