FIFA has postponed its review of a Palestinian request to exclude Israel from international football competitions until after the Olympic Games in Paris. Both sides have asked for more time to present their arguments.

The Palestinian Football Association had requested Israel’s exclusion in May last year due to the war in Gaza, while FIFA commissioned a legal assessment of the situation and promised to examine the matter at an extraordinary council meeting in July.

FIFA announced last night that the legal assessment would be presented to its Council on August 31.

FIFA said on its X-Account: “Following a request from both parties for more time to present their arguments, FIFA has agreed to allow more time to complete the proceedings.”

The Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, while the group stage of the men’s football competitions begins on July 24.

Israel has qualified for the men’s football championship at the Paris Olympic Games and will play against Mali, Paraguay and Japan in the group stage.
